These are some of my thoughts on Kenosha's issues that need to be effectively addressed. I'll keep adding my ideas as I hear from you. If you have issues or concerns you'd like to discuss, please contact me. I'll do my best to find answers and solutions because we are a community!
One sentence sums it up: Families & businesses need representation in our community. I intend to represent District 2 in the Common Council with the needs of our entire Kenosha Community in mind. The new District 2 is very large and the needs of people, families and businesses are different in one area to the next, so I need and welcome everyone's input. If I am elected, I plan to have monthly community forums where we can all talk, address issues, and come up with ideas to make our neighborhoods better across the board. I want to assure that I represent everyone.
Landlords need to be held accountable for upkeep & appearance. I plan to see how the Common Council and City officials can work with Neighborhood Housing and Services to help curb this issue.
The entire Kenosha community needs to promote our Neighborhood Watch programs. Our law enforcement officials are doing the best job they can, but they need our help. Get involved in Neighborhood Watch and let's help each other.
We need strong communication with Kenosha Police Department (KPD). My talks with Chief John Morrissey indicate that the KPD is willing to have representation at any meeting/function when necessary. Let's take advantage of this opportunity!
We need consistency with issuing permits and licenses so it is fair to all. Everyone should have to play by the same rules.
I've been down this road. I bought a business in our downtown area and I know that, right now, it is not easy to know what to do, when to do it or how. Future business owners need our help so they can make their living. And, we need their help to bring the tax base to our area. Better business practices equal a better community.
I was not going to address this, but I have to because it is the issue I have heard more than any other while going door to door. The Council meetings have become long and winded. Not every Common Council member acts in an unprofessional manner, but I bring this up because it seems to concern many people. The lengthy debates should be done at committee level, then brought to the Council for a final vote. None of us will agree all the time, but we need to bring back respect for each other. We also need to respect the mayor no matter who is in that seat. That person has been chosen by the majority, so when someone disrespects the mayor, they disrespect our community.
Please let me know what is happening in your community and what is on your mind. I intend to be your voice for the Common Council!
